Volunteering Opportunities
Do you have a passion for sport, art, music and do you want to make a difference? Why not share your passion with the kids in our Outside School Hours Care Programs or our Early Childhood programs. The YMCA believes that volunteering should be about matching your skill sets and interests so that you are in the best position to make a difference.
The YMCA offers many interesting and rewarding opportunities for volunteers to become involved in ongoing programs or special projects and events that make a real difference to our community. Our Seniors Sports Carnival is a wonderful example of a special event - so many smiling faces from nursing home participants who represent their home to participate for a day in a modified sports carnival - a truly rewarding and pleasurable event for everyone involved.
The YMCA Auxiliary is operated by volunteers and involves everything from collecting through to sorting and selling secondhand goods in our Op shops. Funds raised by the Auxiliary are used to support the YMCA Open Doors Program – aiming to ensure that no Canberran is turned away from a YMCA program due to an inability to pay, funds are also used to support programs targeted to specific vulnerable and additional need groups within our community. The Auxiliary are always happy to welcome new volunteer team members.
At the YMCA Volunteers can be involved in;
- assisting in Health and Fitness programs for people with limited mobility
- assisting in Early Childhood programs such as playschool, paint and play, rhyming connections
- assisting in our basketball program for people with an intellectual disability
- representation on the YMCA Board of Directors
- administration
- Seniors Sports Carnival
- special events
- researching and documenting the history of the organization
- operating the Sailing Club
- operating the Auxiliary Op shops and garage sales
